Iron spiral staircase that is part of the Diamond Head summit trail
Iron spiral staircase that was used to access the four levels of the fire control station bunker is now the part of the Diamond Head summit trail, Diamond Head State Monument, Honolulu, Oahu, Hawaii, USA. The highlight of the 475-acre State Monument is 0.7-mile hike to the summit of Leahi offering breath taking view of Waikiki. The trail to the summit of Leahi was built in 1908 as part of the US. Army Coastal Artillery defense system. The trail scales the steep interior of the crater along the western slopes to the summit. Along the way the trail includes steep stairways, tunnel and a bunker complex.
