  • Statue of King Kamehameha stands overlooking Hilo Bay. The statue of the greatest king in Hawaii’s history came to Hilo with the help of individuals and organizations who raised funds for the construction of the stone pedestal. This 14-foot bronze and gold statue was originally destined to be placed on Kauai. But native Hawaiians were not pleased with this location as Kauai was never conquered but was peacefully turned over to Kamehameha. The dedication ceremony was held on June 10, 1997. The Princeville Corporation donated the statue. Wailoa River State Recreational Area, Hilo, Hawaii, USA
